What is a Hysteroscopy Sheath?

A hysteroscopy sheath is a surgical instrument used during a hysteroscopy procedure. It is a tube-like instrument that is inserted into the vagina and then into the uterus, allowing the hysteroscope (a thin, lighted telescope) to be inserted for examination and treatment of the uterus and cervix. The hysteroscopy sheath also allows for the introduction of fluid into the uterus to provide a better view during the procedure. It also has channels for the insertion of additional instruments, such as biopsy forceps or scissors. The size and shape of the hysteroscopy sheath may vary depending on the specific procedure being performed and the patient’s anatomy.
