What is a Hysteroscope?

A hysteroscope is a medical instrument used in gynecology to examine the inside of the uterus. It is a thin, lighted telescope-like device that is inserted through the vagina and cervix into the uterus. The hysteroscope may be rigid or flexible, and it has a camera attached to the end that displays images on a monitor. It may also have channels for inserting surgical instruments to perform procedures such as biopsies, removing polyps, or treating abnormal bleeding. Hysteroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that can be performed on an outpatient basis, and it is used to diagnose and treat a variety of gynecological conditions.
