LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) is a type of refractive surgery that corrects vision problems by reshaping the cornea. Instruments used in LASIK surgery include:
- Microkeratome: A precision surgical instrument used to create a thin, circular flap in the cornea.
- Femtosecond Laser: A more advanced and precise alternative to the microkeratome, which uses a laser to create the corneal flap.
- Excimer Laser: A highly precise and specialized laser that reshapes the cornea to correct refractive errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
- Speculum: A device used to hold the eyelids open during surgery.
- Irrigation/aspiration cannula: A device used to irrigate and aspirate fluid from the eye during surgery.
- Forceps: Specialized forceps used to hold and manipulate the corneal flap during surgery.
- Pachymeter: A device used to measure the thickness of the cornea.
- Microsurgical instruments: Various microsurgical instruments used during the procedure, such as micro-scissors, micro-holders, and micro-tweezers.
- Suction ring: A device used to stabilize the eye and maintain intraocular pressure during surgery.
- Surgical microscope: A specialized microscope used to magnify and visualize the surgical site during the procedure.
