An infusion set is a medical device used to deliver medication, fluids, or nutrients directly into a patient’s bloodstream. It consists of a small plastic tube (catheter) that is inserted into a vein, a small needle that holds the catheter in place, and a drip chamber that holds the medication or fluids. The set may also include a pump or gravity feed system that regulates the rate of delivery, as well as a filter to prevent impurities from entering the patient’s bloodstream. Infusion sets are commonly used in hospitals, clinics, and home care settings to administer intravenous (IV) therapy, chemotherapy, and other medications or fluids.
