Tubing sets for nutrition, also known as feeding tubes, are used to deliver nutrients directly into the digestive tract of a patient who is unable to swallow food or drink. These tubes are inserted through the nose or mouth, down the esophagus, and into the stomach or small intestine.
The tubing sets consist of a tube made of flexible medical-grade silicone or polyurethane material, a connector, and a feeding bag or syringe. The tubes come in different lengths and diameters to suit the needs of the patient, and are available in different styles, including nasogastric (NG) tubes, nasojejunal (NJ) tubes, gastrostomy (G) tubes, and jejunostomy (J) tubes.
The tubing sets may also include additional components such as clamps, extension sets, and flushing syringes to ensure proper functioning and maintenance of the tube. They are commonly used in hospitals, nursing homes, and home health care settings for patients who require long-term enteral nutrition support.
